Understanding Illinois veteran education benefits has gotten complicated with all the eligibility requirements, stacking options, and application deadlines. As someone who has helped dozens of Illinois veterans maximize their education benefits, I learned everything there is to know about the Illinois Veterans Grant – and I’m sharing all of it here.
Probably should have led with this: The Illinois Veterans Grant (IVG) pays tuition and certain fees for eligible Illinois veterans at state-supported colleges and universities. It’s one of the most valuable state education benefits available and can be used alongside federal GI Bill benefits. That’s what makes this program endearing to us – it’s essentially free college on top of your GI Bill.
